LotRO Delving and Endgame

At max level (160) many of the newer instances and missions can be ran at a harder difficulty. These harder Tiers of 1-10, drop raid quality gear and currency to upgrade your items. It is also probably the fastest way to level. This is a short guide on how our guild meets up and runs the events.

Delving with *NOR/

  • We currently meet in Cardolan “Gerwyn’s Convoy” (Andrath)
    Route Option:
    – “Travel to Kinship” use the Stable to Breeland “South Bree”,
    – In Bree run to the middle of town stable “War Effort/Mission Recruiter Stable-Master”, he can travel you to the final destination of Cardolan “Gerwyn’s Convoy” (Andrath). Note: These Mission Stable-Master are sprinkled throughout the world and they are all connected to each other without first traveling there before.
  • Before leaving Bree, Visit “Lalia’s Market” if you have VIP Status, the NPC: Wenda Cranesbill, VIP Rewards, she will give you the “Subscriber Jug”, which gives you a 14 day buff keeping your character from taking armor damage during the many times you die from boss fights:p

Cardolan “Gerwyn’s Convoy” (Andrath)

  • The NPC: Baglan, Delving Mission Giver. Has 3 weekly delving quests to receive. (Delve Deeper, Deepest and Into the Darkness)
  • Not all instances qualify as a Delving, the newer ones after update 35 and a few others that have been updated. Note: There are also a several solo “Mission” Delves that require no fellowship. These are great for leveling and acquiring gear.
  • Before you can enter the Instance the group leader needs a Delving Stone.

  • Other School of Tham Mirdain (3-player)

Current Solo Instance Delves

  • All the latest Expansions will have a Mission’s NPC. As of Update 46.1, if the mission can be run as a delve it will display the Delving Stone icon.
  • Next to each Missions NPC there is a Mission’s Stablemaster, which will take you all over the land to the other missions givers and most importantly to other stables. So be sure to unlock all the other areas with this shortcut.

The Delving Stones

  • Only the group leader needs the delving stone, which is consumed during the delve’s activation. It is important to note the stone is awarded back after a successful delve and will need to be repurchased if failed.
  • The process to obtain the stone is to buy the bags of coins and then barter them for stones, all of which are bought from NPC: Delving Quartermaster, Delving Reward Vendor. His “shop” sells the bags of coins (copper, gold, silver) which is used to barter back to him for the 4 different stones.
  • The different type of stones (Zircon, Garnet, Emerald, Amethyst). Each stone is used to activate the different difficulty tiers of the Delving Obelisks found within the selected instances. The loot increases about every 4th tier. (LotRO-Wiki Delving)

Zoning into the Instance

  • Select a qualified 3 or 6 person instance using the “instance finder panel”.
  • Be sure all the parties have zoned into the instance before touching the obelisk. IMPORTANT: Do not move past the obelisk or it will activate the current instance and not the delve version. Also if all party members are not present when the obelisk is activated the quest will not give credit to the missing players.
  • Only the group leader places the stone into the obelisk and selects the difficulty tier of 1-10. (higher the tier the better the awards)
  • The group leader will interact with the Obelisk a SECOND TIME to trigger the new quest for the party and a message displays across the screen “malice spreads through the zone” which increases the zone’s difficulty and reward.
  • A chest appears after each boss, like any normal instance.
  • After the final boss and the last chest is looted, then you are ready to click on your portrait and leave zone.
  • Talk to mission giver for another chest award. IMPORTANT: this chest will expires in 1hr so be sure to open it right away.
  • Once the weekly quest is complete, the “Quest Actions Available” notification will appear by the map compass allowing you to collect that reward as well.

Awards

  • Completing the delving awards the currency “Delving Writs” which are bartered for raid quailty gear (1500writs for most items).
  • The rare drops from the zone chests have been 490-526 items.
  • Legendary XP: “shift-i” Be sure to claim your legendary Item rewards. NOTE: It is important to claim these as you earn them because the reward tracker resets every couple months.

Gear Upkeep

Your wallet will track your:

  • Ancient Script: 10k max (The scripts can be taken to the scholars of Archives of Rivendell (2nd floor, north room) to purchase new Traceries and Enchantments for your legendary gear.)
  • Delving writs: 5k max
