LotRo Endgame
New to Endgame?
LotRO is a couple of decades old (2007), with its latest level cap being increased to 160 (Dec 2025). Aside from its rich lore and storyline you get through questing there is a ton of group content. My passion is that group content at the Endgame Level and I personally want to keep up to date on it and help others understand how it all works in the simplest terms.
As of now, from my count, there are 16 large raid (12-person) instances, 68 scalable group (3&6-person) instances, 8 of those have been converted to harder Delvings. Also scattered throughout the world are Roving Threats/Encounters, which would be LotRO’s version of world bosses, and Epic Battles which are pretty unique to LotRO.
The Level cap is 160 which is a long way to reach if you are questing. Myself took the short cut using the 150 level boost packages that have been included in the last couple expansion purchases “Kingdoms of Harad” and “Legacy of Morgoth”. Expansion Details: https://www.lotro.com/expansions
From there you just need a few game sessions to get to L160. See the (150 Boost Guide) for the basics on unboxing the level boost crates and getting to 160.
Ok now that you’re 160, what comes next?
- Before jumping into a group there are some basic mechanics and menu settings to be familiar with. (Must Knows)
- The Rewards
- Getting the most from Weekly Quest
- The Content

Must Knows
This group content can be challenging, and there are some extra mechanics that need to be common knowledge going into it. So, here are a few must-knows:
Induction Bars
Many bosses have very powerful attacks which can be interrupted, however by default the setting that displays its casting is turned off, so we need to be sure it’s on.
– First, “name plates” have to be on, the keyboard “N” will toggle it off and on.
– Secondly, turn on “Induction Bar Display”. Go to Options, UI Settings and at the top you can use the search bar to find it easily and be sure it’s checked marked.
There are 2 types of induction/casting.
– Yellow can be interrupted via an interrupt skill. Look at your spells/skills and find one that says “Interrupts the target”, “Interrupts enemy inductions” and place it on your hot-bar to be sure you know where it is. Skill Examples: (Captain=”Kick”)
– Grey bars are more difficult to interrupt, these are limited to mostly support classes who can stun, mezz or start a fellowship maneuver. Again read through all your spells and place it on your hot-bar for quick access.
Corruption
A third important skill to find will say in its description: “Removes up to 1 Corruption from the Target”. This is used to remove corruption buffs on the monster. Skill Example (Captain=”Cleanse Corruption”)
Interface
-“ctrl” + “\” Will toggle on the screen windows and bars, you can drag them around the screen to find their ideal viewing locations so you can keep an eye on the induction bars, party health and chat. Some of the important ones are listed below.
-“Target Progress Bar” = This is the induction and casting bar of your target.
-“Fellowship Maneuver Display” = This is a party chain reaction combo that some support classes can initiate.
-“Selection’s Target” = This is where the Assist “F” target will show. The target of your target.
Key Mapping
– “F” = Assist Target group members and focusing on their target.
– Party select “Select Fellow #” the default are the F-Keys, but you can assign alternative keys.
– “X” = This can trip a lot of folks up mid combat. Toggling the ‘X’ focuses your movement centered around the target instead of allowing you free range of movement.
– Tab will Target a enemy at some random distance, however you can add a hot key for “Target Nearest Enemy” which makes a lot more sense for a the tank.
Visit “Lalia’s Market” in Bree
– NPC: Wenda Cranesbill, VIP Rewards. This quest giver rewards you the Subscriber Jug, which buffs you character from taking armor damage during the many times you die from boss fights:)
-NPC: Traveler’s Quartermaster, sells the Flame of Ancalamir. This item breaks down unused Traceries into “Ancient Scripts” currency to buy usable Traceries and Enchantments in the Rivendell “Scholars of Archives”
At lvl 151 and lvl 156 you can reforge your Legendary Weapon and Item to raise the Item Level.
Note:
– At L150 your legendary sockets are 500/549
-At L151 after forging sockets are 550/555
-At L156 after forging sockets are 550/560

Rewards
Endgame currencies.
- Embers are the most prized and versital. They allow you to fill your inventory slots with decent gear. You can upgrade your Traceries to “Legendary” or purchase a slew of Virtue points.
- Virture Points, increase your passive and main stats. There are 21 of them and they each level up to 100. It takes alot of virture xp to level these up and luckily most quests offer them as rewards. Alot of players will run their fresh toons back trough the Class/Epic Quests to complete deeds to get the Virture Xp and unlock stables.
- Devling Writs, another currency that allows you to replace some of your gear with high item level pieces.
- Ancient Scripts and Cracked Tracieries: These are used to upgrade your Legendary Weapon and Class item to there highest capbility by inserting Legendary Tracieries which is the end goal for those 2 equipment pieces.

Weekly Quests
Most of the fun things you do in-game will offer additional rewards as a weekly quest, which reward some of those Embers and addtional currencies mentioned. So be sure to keep these in your quest log.

The Content
Completing the instances is a big one for me, and there are different Tiers of difficulty for each. Tougher the difficulty, the better your gear needs to be, so the pursuit of upgrading your gear begins. I have never been a min/max player but it is good to know the general goals your character needs to strive for when selecting your next piece of gear, you do not want to waste those precious embers you worked so hard to gather. The rule of thumb is to always select the gear that has your primary stat in it and keep be aware of the caps of your secondary stats: Character Stats – Lotro-Wiki.com
Mission Delvings:
Short on Players find a friend and do some Tier 6 Delving Missions. Ideally you want to do the Tier 6 ones with one other, they will give you quest credit for 3 separate weekly quests.
If there are more than 2 of you, there are 8 instances that you can run at Tier 1 or higher to complete the weekly Delving quest for embers. These groups are very easy to form in the LFF channel due to the Ember reward incentiave.
The Latest Instances:
The newest zones from “Kingdoms of Harad” are also easy to find pick up groups in and the LFF channel is the place to do that in. These instances do require the latest expansion purchase, which is the focus of most of the active player base. Completing the weekly quest for those instances reward a ton of embers and the zones themselves drop latest gear sets, which have bonus stats for having multiple pieces equiped.
Featured Instance
Another endgame element that is easy to find a group for is the “Featured Instance” these are on a weekly rotation of 6 different instances. Although there are no weekly rewards for doing them, they do drop 100 embers per completion. I do not know how often or if they ever change this list. More Info: Featured Instance – Lotro-Wiki.com

Exploring the Game
Our guild organizes a weekly group night to explore the other group content that LotRO has launched in its past years that does not get the attention from the LFF channel. All of the zones have been added to our guild’s Endgame Tool, so we can track our guild’s progression as we explore all of the different zones and difficulty versions of them. The main content we are currently focused on is visiting all the Instances of Middle-Earth, occasionally throwing in a epic battle, skirmish or what ever the mood of the group is in that week.
