Although the rank 8 is very interesting... buy GMoP at discount, post them at AH for a nice profit, could almost sustain your membership that way?

The daily key is nice, but that level has to be maintained. Maybe for the goodies that benefit others as well..IDK.
But since there seem to be (at the moment) no major advantages, I see nothing wrong with it yet.
Plenty of other F2P games have some form or other of 'elite' status and it works for them
