Strahd has returned…Hardcore style!

On October 14th, Dungeons & Dragons Online will be releasing Update 82: “The Court of Strahd.” The most infamous Ravenloft vampire lord, Count Strahd von Zarovich, returns to DDO to exact revenge against those who had defeated him. The Mists that hold Strahd to the land of Barovia will expand into Stormreach, Eveningstar, and other areas of Xen’drik. Player characters are called upon by The Order of the Guardians to hunt and trap Strahd’s minions in special lanterns. Once the lanterns are full, The Order will exchange them for rare and wondrous rewards and Strahd will be forced out of this plane of existence.

The details of how “hard” of a hardcore event The Court of Strahd will be have yet to be released by the developers. In the past, there have been options that provide player characters two choices between a true hardcore experience (i.e. permadeath one life to live) and a softer-core experience where death does not negate the ability to use the lanterns. Historically, there have been different rewards for the two types of lanterns acquired.

Additionally, the Night Revels event begins this week! A crowd favorite, the quests of the Night Revels are an entertaining and spooky spin on some of DDO’s historic quests. Players gain Night Revels keys by defeating named enemies in Delera’s Graveyard and those keys open up the Night Revels quests. By completing the quests, players can collect end reward ingredients that allow unique items and cosmetics to be crafted. New items are added each year in order to keep the rewards fresh and the Night Revels quests worth running.
