Gutbur’s Grand Adventure: Session #002

Introduction | Previous Sessions
The Adventure Continues …

[DM]: It is the following morning. The cinderling leader Bop, knows how to direct you to their new home, but they will need help making the journey.
As you pack your gear and head off, the cinderling huddle close together in something of a clump. Especially as you cross the open field outside of the farm house before getting back into the trees. Once you’re under the trees they relax and spread out a bit.
After traveling for about an hour, make a Wisdom (Perception) check, which is +5 for Gutbur.

[Dice Gutbur: Perception]: 1d20 (14) + 5 = 19

[DM]: After an hour you stop and decide to check on your charges…
you’re at 46… you’d swear you started the day at 47.

[Gutbur]:
There were 47 the night before. Ask Bop about the missing one.

[DM]:
Do you ask openly or discretely?

[Gutbur]: I guess as discretely as I can – maybe. “How are your people doing?
Any problems? Are they sheltered enough?”

[DM]: After you ask, he starts to answer, and you’re getting better at picking up his meaning. He is basically saying “everything is going fine so far” when you can see he’s looking over the Cinderlings and comes to the same conclusion that you did. One is missing. You can see it instantly in his mannerisms. But you can tell he’s trying to hide it, so as not to cause a panic.

[Gutbur]:
How far to go to the new location?

[DM]:
You’ve only been traveling about an hour.

[Gutbur]:
Remind me, it’s a day of travel yes?

(Talolan):
Like when your kid has to pee 5 minutes into a trip.

[DM]:
About 3/4.

[Gutbur]:
Ok. How exactly are we moving? Are they just walking next to me?

[DM]:
Basically walking around you and the horse.

[Gutbur]:
Are they small enough to all fit inside a saddlebag or two? I’m imagining they are quite small.

[DM]:
Possibly, although they are much heavier than you’d expect for their size. You can certainly try.

[Gutbur]: I’m going to suggest we try to get all of them inside some kind of bag or container I can put on the horse. I can carry a lot of my own gear myself. I would tell Bop this will keep everyone together and safe in the event of trouble along the road, rain or if we are attacked Bop should remain outside with me to guide me.

[DM]: You suggest this to Bop, and he seems distracted scanning around the group looking for the missing Cinderling. When you suggest putting them all in a sack, he freaks out. Saying “no no no no no no no no.” He very quickly gesticulates that putting them into some kind of container like that will kill them.

[Gutbur]:
I see.

[DM]:
He says that he can lead them forward if you can go back and try to find their missing companion.

[Gutbur]:
I will do that if you wish but you will be undefended.

[DM]:
He asks if the horse can be made to follow him?

[Gutbur]: Maybe, but the horse won’t be able to defend you much, only provide some shelter. Should we not get as many as we can to the new sanctuary and then go back to look for stragglers?

[DM]: He points toward the sky, and you see rain is on the horizon.
If we leave them behind, they are not going to survive.

[Gutbur]:
Can I estimate how long before the rain arrives?

[DM]:
Hrm. Make a Wisdom (Nature) check. +1

[Dice Gutbur: Nature]: 1d20 (9) + 1 = 10

[DM]:
It is at least a few hours away, but you can’t get a good sense of it in the forest.

[Gutbur]: I tell Bop I think we should find shelter before the rain starts and once they’re all tucked in I’ll look for the missing Cinderling. Can I use animal handling to keep the horse with them? We’re only an hour out, shouldn’t take too long to backtrack.

[DM]:
Sure, make a Wisdom (Animal Handling) check (+5).

[Dice Gutbur: Animal Handling]:1d20 (12) + 5 = 17

[DM]: You hand the reigns down to Bop. You are fairly confident that your horse is either well trained enough, or simply afraid of you, and will follow Bop.

(Lasarian):
lol

[Gutbur]: Okay, I’ll urge Bop to take it slow and keep an eye out for shelter – stop when he feels they are in danger. I will try to follow out tracks back quickly to locate the missing Cinderling

[DM]:
Make a Wisdom (Survival) check… because it is Wisdom day for Gutbur apparently. +5

[Dice Gutbur: Survival]:1d20 (19) + 5 = Total: 24

[DM]: You only have to backtrack about 10 minutes, before you find a Cinderling tugging on a rock. Based on the little trail behind it, it has been pulling it for a while. It is a very shiny rock and he seems to have taken a liking to it and wants to keep it.

[Gutbur]:
I urge him to let me carry his rock and quickly return to him to the group.

[DM]:
He looks at you warily, but hands you the stone, and you quickly catch up to the group and continue on your way.

[Gutbur]: I tell Bop I have found his wayward Cinderling – but ask about the stone. I also urge him to keep an eye on everyone for any other wanderers. Does Bop want to shelter until the rain passes?

[DM]: He wants to press on. The stone, as far as you can tell appears to just be a rock that has been nicely polished over the years by the weather. Nothing special.

- Gutbur’s Grand Adventure: Session #009The Adventure Continues… (Lasarian): Sorry for fermenting your post so long. [Gutbur]: As I am in the company of the Elk, I would follow their lead. Pillaging two people seems more like just robbing them, which I am ambivalent about. Tempting though … I haven’t had a chance to RP some good old fashioned pillaging….
- Gutbur’s Grand Adventure: Session #008The Adventure Continues… [DM]: When you awake in the High Shaman’s tent you can see that daylight has risen, you are unsure of quite how long you were asleep but at the very least it is the next morning. You no longer suffer from exhaustion. The tent is currently empty. [Gutbur]: I’m alone in the…

Scout for large deadfall, or trees that are dead or nearly dead to lay over the hole. [DM]: As…
