Baron Riveni is a current Officer of Star Wars: The Old Republic, Knight Protector in the swtor:DMG. He traditionally plays a Striker (DPS) class for his main character, and a Defender (Tank) for his secondary, but, due to the challenges posed by the game, these roles are the reverse in SWTOR.

Before New Outriders

Riveni had been introduced to online gaming by his sister (known as Ayne) and his brother-in-law (known as Gamemaster or GM) in 1998, playing such games as Diablo and Warcraft 2. Under the name DarkWyld (or DW, for short), he had become a member of their guild, known then as 'The Immortals', in short order, and was one of the founding members that established that guild in the first true MMORPG ('Everquest') in 1999. This guild did very well at first, but it had no real structure and fell apart due to in-fighting. The guildleader of the time stopped playing, but did not pass leadership to another to be able to manage the guild, so many people eventually left the guild for greener pastures (i.e. more friendly guilds).

However, there were a few members that believed in the concept of a casual guild developed for friends to have fun together. The primaries for the move to establish this new guild were Riveni (still known as 'DarkWyld') and RedSensei (aka Red, and later know as 'Xelmyrion'). The guild they created was "The Jaded Ones", because their experience in The Immortals. They continued this guild through several expansions of EQ, travelling this virtual world through the Ruins of Kunark, Scars of Velious, Shadows of Luclin, Planes of Power, and finally Legacy of Ykesha. At the launch of the Shadows of Luclin expansion, DarkWyld changed his moniker to Riveni, after his newest character which he created with this expansion.

In 2004, just as the Gates of Discord expansion launched, Red moved into the Beta for the newest MMORPG known as World of Warcraft (WoW), plus he and Riveni moved actively to Everquest 2. However, Riveni was a member of the military and was preparing for overseas deployment, so had to be absent from online gaming for the next year. while he was gone, WoW launched and upon his return home, Red convinced him to move into WoW and help run The Jaded Ones. They both stayed there and built a very successful, albeit smaller, guild that had friends from all over the world, many of whom had played together in EQ, and continued to do so until 2006 (just before the launch of Burning Crusade). They moved briefly to Dungeons & Dragons Online, but were more interested in another upcoming game.

Vanguard: Saga of Heroes

  • January 2007 - March 2009

Toward the end of 2006, Xelmyrion and Riveni participated actively as beta-testers for Vanguard, gaining early access to that realm in January of 2007. They had also sampled Lord of the Rings Online early in this same year (see below). Later that year, Riveni was again deployed to the Middle East, but was permitted to take his laptop with him, which he used to connect during his off-time while he was away. Xelmyrion had significantly reduced his game time and returned to WoW. The Jaded Ones had only a nominal showing in Vanguard or LOTRO to that point. With Riveni's change in online time and Xelmyrion's return to WoW, that guild's presence in Vanguard diminished quickly, leaving Riveni as a solo player.

Toward the end of 2007, Riveni had found some new players to explore the world with and built some friendships with them. He learned of the Founding Principles of the New Outriders from these members, which were very similar to the principles he and Xelmyrion had established in The Jaded Ones. He was accepted as recruit to NOR in January of 2008 (and Squired at the beginning of the next month). His play style and gaming ethic quickly earned him the respect of the other NOR members, and in June of that same year, Riveni was promoted to Baron of Maji Hold by Duchess Kennae and Count Leorik.

Through the rest of the year, he continued to adventure with Leorik, Sneakky, and others. He had even brought his son, Kerianos (later known as Dash), into the NOR family. However, the NOR Presence in this world had begun to wane toward the end of 2008 with the release of Warhammer Online.

Lord of the Rings Online (Server - Brandywine)

As mentioned above, Riveni and Xelmyrion had established a presence in Lord of the Rings Online when it launched in April of 2007. However, very few of the Jaded Ones followed, so they did not establish the guild here, and their continued presence had become very limited. Riveni however had acquired a lifetime subscription to this game, and continued to return this platform when the newest fad had gone sour. So it was that when the New Outriders had abandoned WAR, Riveni returned to this game because he wasn't sure he wanted to follow the crowd into another game. SweetPe had accept him into the NOR Branch on the Brandywine server, where he served as one of her officers.
