Hail*NOR/

What a busy month! White Walkers, Eclipse, Hurricanes and Bashs.  First off, to those Texan members we send you are best and we hope life gets back to normal as soon as possible for you.

Last week I had the honor of hosting our 25th Anniversary at my home and I was so excited I was able to meet everyone.  I wish we all had longer to talk and hang out, it seemed like the day flew by way too quickly.  It was incredible that we had players fly and drive from Texas, Arizona, Maryland, Ohio, Illinois, Massachusetts and Indiana.  A huge thank you for making the long journey!  For the next one we will have to make a weekend of it and hit up festival or something:P Check our FaceBook page for pictures!

LotR- Lord of the Rings Online
Count Riveni as brought word that our New OutRider banners still fly in the Shire!  It has been ten years since Lord of the Rings Online opened and it is a F2P model.  On its tenth anniversary, Stepping Stone Games released the final area of the Trilogy – Mordor.

Riveni sends word “If it has been a while, or even if you haven't played, I wanted to let you know there are still NORbies roaming the lands of Middle Earth (SweetPe and I would welcome the company). If you decide to join us, be sure to "/joinchannel newoutriders" to ask for an invite.”

LotR is consider one of our NOMAD realms where any of our existing members can wear the guild name and play with one another.

Hail*NOR/

Fasten your saddles and lather on the sunscreen, because the GW2 branch is mounted up, about to leap into the Path of Fire, and inviting everyone to embark on this journey towards vast new lands with us!  *takes deep breath*  Here’s what’s new since the last newsletter...

ArenaNet released the sixth and final episode of Living World Season 3, entitled, “One Path Ends”. The release was promptly followed with the now customary Reddit Developer AMA, which is well worth the read for additional insight into their GW2 philosophy and future road-map. Besides introducing a new, beautiful map and mastery skill, the episode adds the first ever legendary trinket called Aurora! Many NORbies have been hard at work to finish the associated achievements before the next expansion in order to take advantage of the current interest right now. Finally, remember that if you are a Heart of Thorns owner, you will need to login before the next Living World story begins in order to bank this episode to your account, so don’t stay away too long. Besides, we miss you!

We had barely sunk our teeth into the last episode of Living Story 3 before ArenaNet dropped an unexpected bomb on the community during their announcement for the next expansion, informing us that “Path of Fire” would be releasing as soon as September 22nd! This certainly threw a wrench into the imminent plans of several NORbies who thought they had plenty of time to wrap up some projects before the expansion, but we’re not complaining! Highlights include pet mounts, nine new elite specializations, and gigantic areas to explore in Elona and the Crystal Desert. ArenaNet already hosted two demo weekends in August during which time people could see a small portion of the expansion and experience the new mounts and elite specs. Be sure to check out our demo weekend screenshots and elite spec guide forum posts if you want a peek at what is to come. There are several different options when purchasing Path of Fire, including a bundle with Heart of Thorns if you have never owned it. Keep in mind that the two expansions are distinct and both the story content and elite specializations are fixed to each respective release, so consider what your needs are before you buy and if you need any help deciding what you should get, don’t hesitate to reach out to one of your GW2 officers for suggestions.

As for general news, we continue to make steady progress on Guild Hall expansions, adding two additional levels over the past month, taking us to 53. A few NORbies have been finding great usefulness from the Guild Wars 2 Tactical Overlay, so take a look at the information and see if it is something that would benefit you. The officers have also decided that we will make our Guild Mission event nights the regularly scheduled time for doing promotions. While it won’t be the only time that they will be done, we think that a predictable weekly schedule will help get the best turnout so as many people as possible can celebrate the growth of the branch together. Speaking of which, we congratulate Fana on her well deserved promotion to Champion and DKShang on his promotion to squire! You both make NOR a better place and we’re thankful to have you.

By the time of the next newsletter we will be dipping our toes into the next expansion! It’s hard to believe, but we’re excited to see it. We welcome players new and old to mount up and join us, the ride is sure to be a blast.

Mod 12 is here!  The new zone of Chult is a gorgeous tropical place, complete with a beach that is home to giant crabs.  If it wasn't for all the tiny dinosaurs that bite your ankles, the velociraptors that chain-stun you, spiders and scorpions that fall on your face, tigers, lions, and bears that maul you while you dig up treasure, shamans that throw spears at you for fun, and T-Rex's that headbutt you and send you flying while you're just having a nice walk through the woods, this would be a great place to put out a chair and enjoy a tropical drink!  If the monsters are red, they hurt even more!  That big red spikey T-Rex in the middle of the forest?  Unless you have 19 other friends with you, don't let it sniff you out. Oh, and unless you have a boat from Mod 11, try not to fall into the River Soshenstar, because there's fish in there that eat you.   Anyone squishier than a Guardian Fighter or a Paladin is highly recommended to run around with a friend in the jungle.

This mod has also been a good chance for a lot of us to catch up on gear by spending campaign currencies that we have accumulated from ages ago.  If anyone would like to dust off a toon and come back for a visit, this is a good time to do it.

Until next month,

Even though the summer is winding down, there is lots to do in SWTOR. A brand new flashpoint “Crisis on Umbara” has just been released and we’ve been running it and occasionally falling off its lightning fast, moving train in order to unlock the new stronghold associated with it!

“Crisis on Umbara” advances the story with a dramatic twist, but the flashpoint has been designed so that it can be run without spoiling the story, and everyone is invited to come along and fight some new bosses and explore the shadowy world where the adventure is set. The release of “The Last Jedi” in December is sure to affect SWTOR as well. In the meantime, the Gods from the Machine Operation will see completion and I’m certain the “Shattered Alliance” story will also continue.

As always, we run operations Sunday nights at 8 PM ET and NORbies of all levels of experience and gear are welcome to join the fun. And if you can’t make Sundays, we’re often around during the week running flashpoints or questing. If anyone needs a hand feel free to ping me in game, or the forums, or in Discord, I’m always happy to help!

May the Force be with you!

Hail*NOR/

Under raging storm clouds, a lone figure stands silhouetted against the ancient walls of Castle Ravenloft. The vampire Count Strahd von Zarovich stares down a sheer cliff at the village below. A cold, bitter wind spins dead leaves about him, billowing his cape in the darkness.

Lightning splits the clouds overhead, casting stark white light across him. Strahd turns to the sky, revealing the angular muscles of his face and hands. He has a look of power-and of madness. His once hand some face is contorted by a tragedy darker than the night itself.

Rumbling thunder pounds the castle spires. The wind's howling increases as Strahd turns his gaze back to the village. Far below, yet not beyond his ken, a party of adventurers has just entered his domain. Strahd's face forms a twisted smile as his dark plan unfolds. He knew they were coming, and he knows why they have come-all according to his plan. He, the master of Ravenloft, will attend to them.

Another lightning crash rips through the darkness, its thunder echoing through the castle's towers. But Strahd is gone. Only the howling of the wind-or perhaps a lone wolf- fills the midnight air. The master of Ravenloft is having guests for dinner. And you are invited.
