Re: If you're looking for info about Guild Wars 2 . . .
Me too, sis Have you looked at the system requirements for it? I didn't think they were that taxing (if I'm remembering correctly). But, I hear you, I went a LONG time before we finally replaced my old laptop. *hugs* I hope you can play it, that would be awesomeLakasha wrote:I wish that I had a computer that could actually play this game
Here are the Sys Requirements, straight from their website:
Our goal with Guild Wars 2 is to have it run on a wide range of Windows gaming PCs.
◦Windows® XP Service Pack 2 or better
◦Intel® Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz, Core i3 OR AMD Athlon 64 X2, or better
◦2 GB RAM
◦NVIDIA® GeForce® 7800, ATI X1800, Intel HD 3000, or better (256 MB of video RAM and shader model 3.0 or better)
◦25 GB available HDD space
◦Broadband Internet connection
◦Keyboard and mouse
Hope this helps Lakasha and, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Aww . . . Lakasha - I wish that you could join us there! Where do you fall short on the Sys Reqs? Maybe if we all put our heads/resources together, we can come up with the hardware for you!Lakasha wrote:I wish that I had a computer that could actually play this game

Re: If you're looking for info about Guild Wars 2 . . .
You all would laugh at my computer. Almost embarrassed to say though as I said my son has been talking about picking me up a couple things.
It is a Dell Dimension 4600. I have a Pent4 2.4 ghz and I put in an old ATI Radeon 9600 / X1050 Series and 1gb of ram.
Apparently according to "can you run it" Guild Wars wants my computer to be faster, have better memory and a prettier video card. I don't know if motherboard even has a PCIe slot (I think it doesn't). Dell seems to try to keep you from upgrading much.. but the computer was gifted so can't really complain too much.
Sometimes I am amazed I can play DDO
Thanks for the offer.. maybe I need Zipp (my son) to come post here about it since he is the hardware guy not I

Re: If you're looking for info about Guild Wars 2 . . .
Here are the specs from Dell. Looking at NewEgg.com, you can still get an AGP video card for around $60 (unless someone else has one handy). 2GB of RAM is around $50-$60; I would suggest getting two of those. Just those upgrades would then run almost $200 if bought new. It is always possible someone has old pieces laying around. I use to have memory and a video card, but installed those in my parents PC awhile back.Lakasha wrote: It is a Dell Dimension 4600. Do not forget CPU cooler as I've heard AMDs are hotZipin wrote: CPU/GPU= APU - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819103942

Here's the Coolermaster list for FM1 socket. V8 seems like a good option. I have one now. Keep in mind that it is huge though. Also, I had to replace mine after ~2 years as it burned. I guess I was not dusting the inside often enough... who knows. If you can... make sure the box gives you full access to the back of the motherboard where CPU will be (plus some room for the cooler harness) so you can swap the cooler w/o taking the motherboard out. Alternatively you can find the cooler which does not require such access but I do not think such coolers are powerful (as they are probably quite small).
I am not a expert either, but at first glance your configuration looks quite nice.
P.S. Somewhat off-topic: here's a link to Arena's QA guy talking about performance.
