I wish they would try to figure out a way to make skill based work. I think the reason a mage in heavy armor worked in elder scrolls was because it was skills based. I am sure they will figure it out in a decent way but the skill based leveling was a huge piece of what I like about Elder Scrolls

I can picture a world without war, a world without hate.
And I can picture us attacking that world, because they'd never expect it.

I just don't think that nuts & bolts of the leveling system is really that important. More important issues to me in an MMO are story, exploration, and social features.

I understand. Those are important no doubt. But the way in which you level should be a factor too. I just kind of feel if they could weave the ES skill system into an MMO (without it being "hit your friends 50000 times to max one-handed") it would be really interesting.

EDIT: Wanted to rephrase "the way you level should be important..." To me it is, I didn't mean to make it sound like it must be important for everyone. :)

This is the reason why I assumed all the ES games have been strictly solo too.

At least part of the reason, I'm sure. Personally, I don't see any way to do skill based progression in an MMO and not have it be abused, exploited, or otherwise frustrating. Maybe there is some designer out there that can pull it off. There are some very very talented people in the industry, but I don't see any system that wouldn't break.
