Journal Entry II. Can't sleep. I tried to paint, but I'm heartsick. I want clean air. I can't see it back there, but I feel it. The pressure is awful. * My work's gotten slipshod, so they called me to the cathedral. I said my head hurts. She asked me what I have to feel guilty about.
Journal Entry III. I am guilty. There used to be a fire in me, and it was my comfort. Now it's gone, and I just ache. * This place is ungodly. We're nothing to them. I have to get out--lie to their faces, whatever it takes. Run for home. And tell no one.
