I don't think they've updated the base download in forever, so the initial patch run nearly re-downloads the game. If you ever do get in, you should find guild invites in your mailbox.

It took several hours for me to get it up and running, then I had to select the reset video settings before it would work.

There's a mailbox in the Harbor (but you have to leave the starter island to ge there).
