Castle Ravenloft - First Boss

Post by Phelaia »

A mechanics guide of the Sisters of Stradht:

I tagged along on a training run with alliance, and I had the job of the tome-keeper. That tome had its own set of powers, and I've yet to figure out exactly what it was supposed to do other than playing ring-around-the-rosie with two of the sisters. I hear that a DC from alliance is going to do a video guide for the tome-keeper. I will update this post when that is up.

Date: July 28, 2019
Team: Tyrandil (Tank Fighter), John Rain (DPS Rogue), Ziek (DPS Warlock), Phelaia (DPS Wizard), Yoki (PUG Cleric)
Dungeon: Castle Ravenloft

Our inaugural visit to Ravenloft happened on a quiet Sunday afternoon. It was totally Tyr's idea to go have a chat with Stradh, and Phel went along with it. Phel yanked Ziek and Rain along for company, and the que system handed us Yoki the Cleric. All NOR members were on Discord, and it appeared that Yoki has been there before.

Even before we can get into the castle proper, the three Sisters of Stradh stopped us in the court yard. This fight had few mechanics. Chiefly, Ziek had to pick up the Tome of Stradh and tango with two sisters in mist form out of three on one side of the court yard, so that the rest of us fight the remaining sister in human form on the opposite side of the court yard. The three sisters had to be tackled one at a time, which makes this a long and grindy fight. The funniest thing was Ziek managed to discover what is probably a bug with the Tome, where he could hold down the left mouse button and kept the attention of the sister indefinitely. He actually went AFK and made himself a drink and came back and that sister was still there.

After we got into the castle, Phel got a little distracted by the gorgeous and opulent interiors, until an Executioner appears from behind and land a giant axe on her face. There were werewolves, ghosts, vampires galore. No, these vampires do not sparkle, which made the fight in a cavernous, pitch black, bat-infested chapel rather challenging. If Tyr goes down, you know they hit hard.

Eventually, we reached the ballroom and crashed the party. There was "food" on the banquet tables (don't eat that). The ghosts were dresed to the nines and dancing. It was like the haunted mansion at Disneyland. The problem was, Stradh just can't let us have a good time, so he reanimated a huge stone Arcolith to stop us from having a good time. This fight was a good ole straight burn. We definitely had enough DPS to break the Arcolith down to very small chunks.

As we got deeper into the castle, going up several flights of grand staircases, Phel got a little more distracted by the gorgeous interiors. For those who like ogling at pretty environments, this was not the recycled Castle Never. At about 45 minutes after we started, we finally reached the penthouse where Stradh was.

We gave this last boss fight 3 tries. At first try, none of us knew the mechanics. At second try, a few of us figured out some of the mechanics, and we actually got Stradh down to about 50%. At third try, Rain, our major DPS, got thrown into the basement and was chain-stunned by the Executioners, from which there was no escape. After the third attempt, Ziek suggested that we come back another day, as this was a dungeon that was made before the massive rework of Mod 16, and many things need to be figured out all over again.

It was a very very good attempt at one of the toughest dungeons on the roster. Stradh will be there the next time we go, and I want to steal his comfy chair.
