Unable to escape, I begin to make my way around the main floor looking for familiar faces.

You may talk as much or take as many actions as you like, post at will.

If I see anything that endangers the game or "god-modding", I will moderate appropriately.

You may not leave the Castle, you may not bring people not named into the game unless they post their willingness. For purposes of this game, those killed cannot be "rezzed"

If you are wondering what the object of the game is, or what the point may be, I am certain that will become clear very quickly.

I'd like to investigate the dagger for clues to its origin or owner.

. . . yes, that could prove to be quite helpful, but we also need to figure out who would benefit most from the demise of our beloved Lord Lasarian and High Council . . .

I would think looking at the note and what type of handwriting is on it would be important. Is everything spelled correctly? Is a particularly flowy script? Cursive or Print? I need to see it :)

I can picture a world without war, a world without hate.
And I can picture us attacking that world, because they'd never expect it.

By and large, the story is your own to unfold however you choose. As I said before, I will moderate any "god-modding", ie, "I use my secret 100% accurate mind-reading power to discover the assassin ... " is the sort of thing we will not be doing.

What you can do is embellish any other aspect of the situation within the few specifications given.

So, if Lakasha was to examine the note, for example, and although she very quickly recognizes that it has been magically written to conceal the handwriting of the person who wrote it, Lakasha might well have good reason to suggest: "This handwriting looks familiar to me, it seems like it was written by a man."

Whose dagger is it? Who wrote the note?

Not for me to say ...

The dagger might not belong to the killer.

Not that hard to use someone else weapon to frame someone.

AFter wondering the halls Tundrra finds the group that has gathered around poor Lasarian's Body. With the weapon in Burlye's hand a discussion of who the weapon could belong to has started.

"The killer must be a supporter of the Unicorn party! Why else kill the outspoken HC member who has supported the Griffin party so fiercely!" "who has spoken the most in support of the Unicorn?"
